OUR STORY

HUMAN WORTH is a UK independent charitable label, now based in Brighton, with a portion of all profits donated to help support those in crisis around the world.

Founded in 2019 by award winning artist Owen Gildersleeve (Modern Technology / Old Mayor) the label has teamed up with an array of incredible artists over the years, raising thousands of pounds for a range of amazing physical and mental health charities, suicide prevention and LGBTQ+ rights centres, as well as various homeless shelters and food banks.

The label initially began as a series of charity shows up and down the country, hosting the likes of Thank, Cattle, Bruxa Maria, Pure Adult and Luminous Bodies with all profits from the nights donated to a selection of causes.

Then in the spring of 2020, as a response to the international pandemic, Human Worth released their first compilation ‘Human Worth vol. I’ bringing together twenty bands from the UK DIY scene, featuring a range of new and exclusive tracks from the likes of Silent Front, Casual Nun, Remote Viewing and Human Leather, with all proceeds donated to The Trussell Trust.

The compilation was received with great acclaim, described by Fuzzy Sun as “The best UK compilation I have ever seen” and raising nearly £1,000 for charity. This was followed by a second compilation later in the summer, this time teaming up with UK noise artist AJA to support her mental health awareness and suicide prevention charity Harmless, who on receiving the funds stated that these were “Lives saved by music. Literally!”

Seeing momentum with the label and a chance to push the fundraising further, Human Worth released its first physical offering in September 2020 – The debut full-length from noisy UK duo Modern Technology with 10% of all sales proceeds donated to charities The Trussell Trust and Black Lives Matter. Recorded by Wayne Adams of Big Lad and Petbrick, and mastered by James Plotkin of Khanate, the album tapped into the social conscience of the time, with the track ‘Blackwall Approach’ almost foreseeing the global pandemic.

This first record has been followed by a range of successful releases, including a special 15th Anniversary Reissue of Enablers’ seminal album Output Negative Space, raising funds for music and mental health charity Sounds of Saving, with the blessing of Steve Von Till who originally released the album through his celebrate label Neurot Recordings and posted on the release "Thank you Human Worth for being an ethical label for the forces of good."

Human Worth continues to grow, recently teaming up with Brighton based distribution company Republic of Music, who now handle all the label's in-store stocking and international distribution. So keep your eyes peeled for Human Worth's catalogue coming soon to a store near you!
